We have an exciting lineup of scientific sessions as part of the Health Effects Institute’s 2021 Annual Conference, to be held virtually via a series of eight webinars, with topics covering a variety of important issues in air pollution and public health. For more information on sessions and speakers and registration links, please visit our website.

Join us for our first session, Climate Change, Air Quality, and Health on April 6, 2021, followed by sessions every Tuesday or Thursday through May 25, 2021. Below you will find the list of webinars.

To encourage participation from colleagues and students across the globe, registration is open to all, free of charge. We look forward to seeing you there!

HEI's 2021 Virtual Annual Conference Agenda

Tuesday, April 6, 10 AM-Noon ET
Climate Change, Air Quality, and Health
What do we know about the links between a changing climate, air quality, and health? This session will review these connections and the potential for unequal air quality and health impacts of climate change and mitigation efforts.

Tuesday, April 13, 10 AM-Noon ET
Environmental Health Research and Communities: Stories of Successes and Challenges
In this session we will hear case studies and discuss the benefits, challenges, and ethical considerations that come with community involved environmental research.

Tuesday, April 20, 10 AM-Noon ET
From Global to Local: Informing Air Quality Policies and Decision-Making
Join us in our early celebration of Earth Day 2021 as speakers and panelists discuss global and local approaches for characterizing health impacts of air pollution, and policy applications for such analyses.

Tuesday, April 27, 10 AM-Noon ET
The COVID-19 Pandemic, Air Pollution, and Health: Lessons from Around the Globe
This session will discuss linkages between the pandemic, air pollution, and COVID-19 susceptibility, and how the “One Health” approach helps us recognize the interconnections of a shared environment.

Tuesday, May 4, 10 AM-Noon ET
From Evidence to Action: Synthesizing Air Quality Evidence Relevant to Public Health
Join us as we examine approaches for evidence synthesis in environmental epidemiology, such as systematic review, meta-analysis, and GRADE, and discuss possible paths forward.

Tuesday, May 11, 10 AM-Noon ET
Non-tailpipe Emissions: Impacts on Urban Air Quality and Health
With reductions in tailpipe emissions from motor vehicles, there is increasing interest in non-tailpipe emissions. Join us as we discuss current and likely future contributions of non-tailpipe emissions to ambient air concentrations, exposures, and health effects.

Thursday, May 13, 10 AM-Noon ET
Early Career Researcher Spotlight
Meet the new generation of air pollution and health researchers, this year’s winners of the Jane Warren Trainee Conference Award.

Tuesday, May 25, 10 AM-Noon ET
What We Have Learned about Effects on Health at Low Levels of Exposure: Evidence from the United States, Canada, and Europe
This session will present results from recently completed HEI studies on health effects at low levels of air pollution, focusing on dose-response functions, multi-pollutant models, and strategies for confounder control.
